I hope this finds you well. 


What’s with the weather?  Ummm, I think we know.


And where has all the Sriracha gone?  Is it drought in Mexico or another Deep State Conspiracy?  Maybe get Jim Jordan on the job?  Maybe not.  Okay, not maybe either.  But we’re currently nursing that last bottle of perfect hot sauce, hoping for civilization to rear its sun-ripened chilied head before too soon.


Got indictment?  When that’s the actual good news it’s a sure sign the world is both Gordian knotted and weirder than the Collatz Conjecture.  We are in some seriously undiscovered territory and Hamlet ain’t in it but let us not permit the astucious, glowering knave to hold us hostage when we can find all sorts of other ways to dance our tandava.  Tandavabtw doesn’t really just mean dance unless that’s ‘round a fire on the way to the hunt.  We’ll cover that another time.  It’s important not to regularize the outrageous when our very souls are at stake.  Iti Shivam.


I’m not averse to some honest soothing and this week that brought on a long playlist from The American Songbook and a celebration of the glorious life of one Tony Bennett.  Donch’a know he was Anthony Dominick Benedetto from Queens and was once a singing waiter in a nightclub in Paramus?  My mom would take us right past that place on the way to the mall when I was a kid.  When in doubt, sing.  Even in Paramus.  On Route 4.   In a ’64 Coupe de Ville. 


This past week I’ve also been studying monotypic taxons and trophic dyanmics to see if we can apply what we know about king cobras to the study of Tantra.   I’m not sure you won’t find this boring so I’m gonna spare you.  I broke out the old Leica M6 to shoot some black & white film.  (My Best Pal laughed at me for induling the Inner Luddite.)  Talk about metachronic displacement, next thing you know I’ll be typing the newsletter on my Mom’s 1924 Underwood and sending it via gastropod.  Sometimes slowing down to analog and getting all loomstate lets you hear the music.  I’m take a moment.  Jack Smith and Fanni Willis is coming.   Is that the sound of the cavalry or just the theme song to F Troop?

  Thursday, January 25, 2024   Aho’Rajanaka,   I hope this finds you well.   We’re going to need each other this year, maybe more than ever.  Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse or weirder, it will and you’ll feel a lot better in good company.  It will be good to be in the conversation with you.   India Pilgrimage this year was pretty darn wonderful this year, gotta’ say.  Re-entry has been interesting.  (N.B., not every use of the word “interesting” is a good thing, much like the word “fragrant.”  Except when it isn’t.  You take my point?)  There are good stories yet to be told.  And there are a few more Pilgrimage Diaries yet to come.  I hope you’ve enjoyed these---all on the Rajanaka Substack and all free.   I thought it prudent to take another week before we begin Winter Semester.   It may some are actually looking forward to these Sessions, I sure am.   But I think we need to get the word out and refreshed. Saturday, December 16, 2023   Aho’ Rajanaka,   I hope this finds you well.    I spent this past week at the office with students talking about their final papers, due at the end of next week.    I will give them to the very last minute.    Get on with it, I tell them.    They would have to petition the Almighty Itself to get an extension and that dude does not have tenure, at least not in  this  department.    Let’s wish them well, ‘cause like the rest of us, they’re going to need all the help they can get so long as it’s  not  from AI or ChatGPT.   We’re leaving for India on December 27 th .    It’s been a few years, what with pandemic and the world ablaze.    I’ll offer a Daily Pilgrimage Diary, and with any luck publish this as a podcast each day of the yatra.    Come along.    I tell you about the gods and the folks we meet and our fellow pilgrims.    Word has it we’ll be having baby Krishnika on the bus---Babu and Bharathi’s new baby girl.    It’s a family affair.    Please subscr
